Supplication of Alqama
The supplication of Alqama (Arabic: دُعاء عَلقَمَة) is usually recited after Ziarat Ashura. It is narrated by Safwan b. Mihran from Imam Sadiq. It is also reported that Alqamah said that Imam Baqir had told him, "If you can perform the ziarat of the Imam Hussain through this ziarat from your home, you will gain all rewards." This supplication is included in Mafatih al-Jinan. Al Shaykh al-Tusi has reported it in his famous book, Misbah al-Mutahajjid.
Text of Supplication of Alqama[edit | edit source]
یَا اللَّهُ یَا اللَّهُ یَا اللَّهُ یَا مُجِیبَ دَعْوَةِ ٱلْمُضْطَرِّینَ یَا کَاشِفَ کُرَبِ ٱلْمَکْرُوبِینَ یَا غِیَاثَ ٱلْمُسْتَغِیثِینَ
O Allah! O Allah! O Allah! O He who gives answer to the cries of the persecuted! O He who pulls out the griefstricken from agony and anguish! O He who comes to help those who shed tears in helplessness!
یَا صَرِیخَ ٱلْمُسْتَصْرِخِینَ وَیَا مَنْ هُوَ اقْرَبُ إِلَیَّ مِنْ حَبْلِ ٱلْوَرِیدِ
O He who brings relief to those who cry for help! O He who is close by, nearer than my jugular vein!
وَیَا مَنْ یَحُولُ بَیْنَ ٱلْمَرْءِ وَقَلْبِهِ وَیَا مَنْ هُوَ بِٱلْمَنْظَرِ ٱلا عْلَىٰ وَبِٱلافُقِ ٱلْمُبِینِ
O He who makes peace between heart and mind; O He whom people search in the highest and noblest perspectives!
وَیَا مَنْ هُوَ ٱلرَّحْمٰنُ ٱلرَّحِیمُ عَلَىٰ ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱسْتَوَىٰ وَیَا مَنْ یَعْلَمُ خَائِنَةَ ٱلاعْیُنِ وَمَا تُخْفِی ٱلصُّدُورُ
O He who is Beneficent and Merciful in His authority! O He who knows what the furtive eyes betrays and what the secretive hearts conceal!
وَیَا مَنْ لاَ یَخْفَىٰ عَلَیْهِ خَافِیَةٌ یَا مَنْ لاَ تَشْتَبِهُ عَلَیْهِ ٱلاصْوَاتُ
O He whom none can deceive even in secret! O He whom intermingled voices of the supplicants does not stop Him from answering each one individually!
وَیَا مَنْ لاَ تُغَلِّطُهُ ٱلْحَاجَاتُ وَیَا مَنْ لاَ یُبْرِمُهُ إِلْحَاحُ ٱلْمُلِحِّینَ
O He whom is not put into confusion by the infinite number of needs, attending to each one individually! O He whom is not upset by the clamorous and determined pleading of petitioners!
یَا مُدْرِکَ کُلِّ فَوْتٍ وَیَا جَامِعَ کُلِّ شَمْلٍ وَیَا بَارِئَ ٱلنُّفُوسِ بَعْدَ ٱلْمَوْتِ
O He who reaches and takes hold of everything that tries to escape! O He who keeps everything together in harmony! O He who examines the souls when they present themselves before Him after death!
یَا مَنْ هُوَ کُلِّ یَوْمٍ فِی شانٍ یَا قَاضِیَ ٱلْحَاجَاتِ یَا مُنَفِّسَ ٱلْکُرُبَاتِ یَا مُعْطِیَ ٱلسُّؤُلاَتِ
O He who, each day, has a distinct glory! O Fulfiller of needs! O He who gives comfort and respite in distress! O He who satisfies those who solicit His favours!
یَا وَلِیَّ ٱلرَّغَبَاتِ یَا کَافِیَ ٱلْمُهِمَّاتِ
O He who stands by and looks after those who humbly and fervently call on Him! O He who effectively supports those who make sincere efforts!
یَا مَنْ یَکْفِی مِنْ کُلِّ شَیْءٍ وَلاَ یَکْفِی مِنْهُ شَیْءٌ فِی ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ وَٱلارْضِ
O He who suffices everything; and nothing in the heavens and the earth is free from His hold.
اسْالُکَ بِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ خَاتَمِ ٱلنَّبِیِّینَ وَعَلِیٍّ امِیرِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِینَ وَبِحَقِّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ نَبِیِّکَ وَبِحَقِّ ٱلْحَسَنِ وَٱلْحُسَیْنِ
I beseech Thee for the sake of Muhammad, the Seal of all Prophets, and Ali, Ameerul Momineen, for the sake of Fatima (sa), the daughter of Your Prophet, for the sake of Hasan and Hussain.
فَإِنِّی بِهِمْ اتَوَجَّهُ إِلَیْکَ فِی مَقَامِی هٰذَا وَبِهِمْ اتَوَسَّلُ وَبِهِمْ اتَشَفَّعُ إِلَیْکَ
I direct myself towards you, through Them in this state and through Them I ask for a hearing and through Their intercession I put forward my case,
وَبِحَقِّهِمْ اسْالُکَ واقْسِمُ وَاعْزِمُ عَلَیْکَ وَ بالشانِ ٱلَّذِی لَهُمْ عِنْدَکَ وَبِٱلْقَدْرِ ٱلَّذِی لَهُمْ عِنْدَکَ
For Their sake I make a request to You; and I promise to have a life that is in accordance with Your commands, I will carry out my pledge by every means, and with Your love for Them and Their status with You
وَبِٱلَّذِی فَضَّلْتَهُمْ عَلَىٰ ٱلْعَالَمِینَ وَبِٱسْمِکَ ٱلَّذِی جَعَلْتَهُ عِنْدَهُمْ وَبِهِ خَصَصْتَهُمْ دُونَ ٱلْعَالَمِین
and Their supremacy over all others throughout the worlds, and through Your name that You entrusted to Them, and through this You preferred Them over everything throughout all the worlds,
وَبِهِ ابَنْتَهُمْ وَابَنْتَ فَضْلَهُمْ مِنْ فَضْلِ ٱلْعَالَمِینَ حَتَّىٰ فَاقَ فَضْلُهُمْ فَضْلَ ٱلْعَالَمِینَ جَمِیعاً
and through this You showed Their status above the rest of the world, and Their perfection and Their supremacy in knowledge over all of the inhabitants of the worlds, developed to perfection their surpassing excellence in knowledge, learning and deeds;
اسْالُکَ انْ تُصَلِّیَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَانْ تَکْشِفَ عَنِّی غَمِّی وَهَمِّی وَکَرْبِی
I ask You to send blessings on Muhammad and on the Progeny of Muhammad; an( look into the causes of my sorrows, anxieties, burdens, and do away with them,
وَتَکْفِیَنِی ٱلْمُهِمَّ مِنْ امُورِی وَتَقْضِیَ عَنِّی دَیْنِی
let me be fully aware when dealing with my important affairs and efforts, and carry out and fulfil my obligations,
وَتُجِیـرَنِی مِنَ ٱلْفَقْرِ وَتُجِیـرَنِی مِنَ ٱلْفَاقَةِ وَتُغْنِیَنِی عَنِ ٱلْمَسْالَةِ إِلَىٰ ٱلْمَخْلُوقِینَ
set me free from the clutches of poverty and from the pangs of hunger, let me have enough to live upon, free from the need of having to turn to others,
وَتَکْفِیَنِی هَمَّ مَنْ اخَافُ هَمَّهُ وَعُسْرَ مَنْ اخَافُ عُسْرَهُ وَحُزُونَةَ مَنْ اخَافُ حُزُونَتَهُ
let me be an adequate match for him who creates trouble for me, and foil the plan of he whom I fear will trouble me, let him who I fear will annoy me come to grief,
وَشَرَّ مَنْ اخَافُ شَرَّهُ وَمَکْرَ مَنْ اخَافُ مَکْرَهُ وَبَغْیَ مَنْ اخَافُ بَغْیَهُ
and expose the one who wishes to slander me, and defeat the plot of the one who plots against me, and act against the one who wishes to treat me unjustly,
وَجَوْرَ مَنْ اخَافُ جَوْرَهُ وَسُلْطَانَ مَنْ اخَافُ سُلْطَانَهُ وَکَیْدَ مَنْ اخَافُ کَیْدَهُ
and take me into Your protection to keep me safe from the one who wishes to manipulate me,and exercise Your supreme authority on the one who wishes to rule over me, and outsmart the one who wishes to deceive me,
وَمَقْدُرَةَ مَنْ اخَافُ مَقْدُرَتَهُ عَلَیَّ وَتَرُدَّ عَنِّی کَیْدَ ٱلْکَیَدَةِ وَمَکْرَ ٱلْمَکَرَةِ
And deal with the one who wishes to oppress me; keep away from me the deceit of the vindictive and the mischief makers.
اَللَّهُمَّ مَنْ ارَادَنِی فَارِدْهُ وَمَنْ کَادَنِی فَکِدْهُ
O Allah put an end to the intentions of him who desires to destroy me, and outwit the one who plans against me,
وَٱصْرِفْ عَنِّی کَیْدَهُ وَمَکْرَهُ وَبَا سَهُ وَامَانِیَّهُ وَٱمْنَعْهُ عَنِّی کَیْفَ شِئْتَ وَانَّىٰ شِئْتَ
keep off from me the deceit and scheming and hostility; keep me distant, refusing to have anything to do with the schemer in whatever manner or occasion.
اَللَّهُمَّ اشْغِلْهُ عَنِّی بِفَقْرٍ لاَ تَجْبُرُهُ وَبِبَلاءٍ لاَ تَسْتُرُهُ وَبِفَاقَةٍ لاَ تَسُدُّهَا
O Allah divert his attention from me and involve him in his own troubles and in his own mistfortunes which will not be easy to deal with,
وَبِسُقْمٍ لاَ تُعَافِیهِ وَذُلٍّ لاَ تُعِزُّهُ وَبِمَسْکَنَةٍ لاَ تَجْبُرُهَا
and engross him in laziness that You will not change into fruitful activities, in disgrace from which You will not lift from him, and in poverty which You will not relieve.
اَللَّهُمَّ ٱضْرِبْ بِٱلذُّلِّ نَصْبَ عَیْنَیْهِ وَادْخِلْ عَلَیْهِ ٱلْفَقْرَ فِی مَنْزِلِهِ وَٱلْعِلَّةَ وَٱلسُّقْمَ فِی بَدَنِهِ
O Allah let him be disgraced, and let there be emptiness in every effort that he makes, let his evil intentions affect his body and soul,
حَتَّىٰ تَشْغَلَهُ عَنِّی بِشُغْلٍ شَاغِلٍ لاَ فَرَاغَ لَهُ وَانْسِهِ ذِکْرِی کَمَا انْسَیْتَهُ ذِکْرَکَ
so that his attention is diverted away from me, make him think no more of me as he has wilfully neglected and forgotten You,
وَخُذْ عَنِّی بِسَمْعِهِ وَبَصَرِهِ وَلِسَانِهِ وَیَدِهِ وَرِجْلِهِ وَقَلْبِهِ وَجَمِیعِ جَوَارِحِهِ
take away from me and divert his hearing, sight, speech, hands, legs, heart, and everything else on him ,
وَادْخِلْ عَلَیْهِ فِی جَمِیعِ ذٰلِکَ ٱلسُّقْمَ وَلا تَشْفِهِ حَتَّىٰ تَجْعَلَ ذٰلِکَ لَهُ شُغْلاً شَاغِلاً بِهِ عَنِّی وَعَنْ ذِکْرِی
let everything he does go to waste and be incomplete, until he becomes completely occupied and has no time to remember me.
وَٱکْفِنِی یَا کَافِی مَا لاَ یَکْفِی سِوَاکَ فَإِنَّکَ ٱلْکَافِی لاَ کَافِیَ سِوَاکَ وَمُفَرِّجٌ لاَ مُفَرِّجَ سِوَاکَ
Grant enough to me, O He who satisfies for there is none other than You who suffices, indeed You alone satisfies, there is none other than You who is able to satisfy. It is You who dispels the clouds of sorrows, no one else, except You can dispel the sorrows from the grief stricken.
وَمُغِیثٌ لاَ مُغِیثَ سِوَاکَ وَجَارٌ لاَ جَارَ سِوَاکَ
None but You comes to the aid of those who call for help. You are always near to avert the danger.
خَابَ مَنْ کَانَ جَارُهُ سِوَاکَ وَمُغِیثُهُ سِوَاکَ وَمَفْزَعُهُ إِلَىٰ سِوَاکَ
He is at a loss who relies on others instead of You; he is at a loss who looks for a supporter other than You; he is at a loss who cries for help from one other than You;
وَمَهْرَبُهُ إِلَىٰ سِوَاکَ وَمَلْجَاهُ إِلَىٰ غَیْرِکَ وَمَنْجَاهُ مِنْ مَخْلُوقٍ غَیْرِکَ
He is at a loss who takes refuge in a place instead of with You; and tries to bring himself to a place of safety through the help of created beings, excluding You, the Creator.
فَانْتَ ثِقَتِی وَرَجَائِی وَمَفْزَعِی وَمَهْرَبِی وَمَلْجَإِی وَمَنْجَایَ
You are my trust, my hope, my retreat, my refuge, and my security;
فَبِکَ اسْتَفْتِحُ وَبِکَ اسْتَنْجِحُ وَبِمُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ اتَوَجَّهُ إِلَیْکَ وَاتَوَسَّلُ وَاتَشَفَّعُ
Therefore I call for Your help, and Your support to carry out my affairs, through Muhammad (saw) and the Progeny of Muhammad (asws) I present myself before You and ask for Their intercession
فَاسْالُکَ یَا اللَّهُ یَا اللَّهُ یَا اللَّهُ فَلَکَ ٱلْحَمْدُ وَلَکَ ٱلشُّکْرُ وَإِلَیْکَ ٱلْمُشْتَکَىٰ وَانْتَ ٱلْمُسْتَعَانُ
So I implore You, O Allah, O Allah, O Allah, for You alone belongs all praise and all thankfulness, You alone are the one who Iistens to complaints and You alone are called upon for help.
فَاسْالُکَ یَا اللَّهُ یَا اللَّهُ یَا اللَّهُ بِحَقِّ مُحَمَّـدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّـدٍ انْ تُصَلِّیَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
So I implore Thee, O Allah, O Allah, O Allah, in the name of Muhammad and the Progeny of Muhammad (asws), to send blessings on Muhammad (saw) and the Progeny of Muhammad,
وَانْ تَکْشِفَ عَنِّی غَمِّی وَهَمِّی وَکَرْبِی فِی مَقَامِی هٰذَا
and dispel the sorrow, anxieties, and problems in my present state
کَمَا کَشَفْتَ عَنْ نَبِیِّکَ هَمَّهُ وَغَمَّهُ وَکَرْبَهُ وَکَفَیْتَهُ هَوْلَ عَدُوِّهِ
just as You made Your Prophet free of His sorrows, anxieties and burdens, and saved Him from the terror of His enemies,
فَٱکْشِفْ عَنِّی کَمَا کَشَفْتَ عَنْهُ وَفَرِّجْ عَنِّی کَمَا فَرَّجْتَ عَنْهُ وَٱکْفِنِی کَمَا کَفَیْتَهُ
the way You made Him to do so, then let me also do the same, free me just as You freed Him, let me be free from worry the way You freed Him of worry, let me have abundance just as You gave Him abundantly.
وَٱصْرِفْ عَنِّی هَوْلَ مَا اخَافُ هَوْلَهُ وَمَؤُونَةَ مَا اخَافُ مَؤُونَتَهُ
Dispel the terror that frightens me, dispel the troubles that burden me,
وَهَمَّ مَا اخَافُ هَمَّهُ بِلا مَؤُونَةٍ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِی مِنْ ذٰلِکَ
dispel the anxieties that worry me and free me from their effects.
وَٱصْرِفْنِی بِقَضَاءِ حَوَائِجِی وَکِفَایَةِ مَا اهَمَّنِی هَمُّهُ مِنْ امْرِ آخِرَتِی وَدُنْیَایَ
Make me use whatever means I have at my disposal to carry out my affairs, and make me not be anxious about my affairs in this world or the hereafter.
یَا امِیرَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِینَ وَیَا ابَا عَبْدِ ٱللَّهِ عَلَیْکُمَا مِنِّی سَلامُ ٱللَّهِ ابَداً مَا بَقِیتُ وَبَقِیَ ٱللَّیْلُ وَٱلنَّهَار
O Ameerul Momineen (asws)! O Abaa Abdullah (asws)! For the rest of my days and nights and for eternity I ask Allah to send His blessings upon You.
وَلاَ جَعَلَهُ ٱللَّهُ آخِرَ ٱلْعَهْدِ مِنْ زِیَارَتِکُمَا وَلاَ فَرَّقَ ٱللَّهُ بَیْنِی وَبَیْنَکُمَ
May Allah not make this ziarat of You to be my last ziarat, and may Allah not separate me and You from one another.
اَللَّهُمَّ احْیِنِی حَیَاةَ مُحَمَّدٍ وَذُرِّیَّتِهِ وَامِتْنِی مَمَاتَهُمْ وَتَوَفَّنِی عَلَىٰ مِلَّتِهِمْ
O Allah let me live my life like that of Muhammad (saw) and His Descendants (asws), and let me leave this world the way They left this world, and let me die having belief in Them;
وَٱحْشُرْنِی فِی زُمْرَتِهِمْ وَلاَ تُفَرِّقْ بَیْنِی وَبَیْنَهُمْ طَرْفَةَ عَیْنٍ ابَداً فِی ٱلدُّنْیَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ
and raise me along with those on Their side, and do not separate me from Them, even for the blink of an eye, in this world or in the hereafter.
یَا امِیرَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِینَ وَیَا ابَا عَبْدِ ٱللَّهِ اتَیْتُکُمَا زَائِراً وَمُتَوَسِّلاً إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ رَبِّی وَرَبِّکُمَا
O Ameerul Momineen (asws)! And O Abaa Abdullah (asws)! I come nearer to You both to establish close relationship, and thereby seek nearness to Allah, my Lord and Your Lord,
وَمُتَوَجِّهاً إِلَیْهِ بِکُمَا وَمُسْتَشْفِعاً بِکُمَا إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ تَعَالَىٰ فِی حَاجَتِی هٰذِهِ
through You I direct myself towards Him, and I request You to intercede for me on my behalf before Allah.
فَٱشْفَعَا لِی فَإِنَّ لَکُمَا عِنْدَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمَقَامَ ٱلْمَحْمُودَ وَٱلْجَاهَ ٱلْوَجِیهَ وَٱلْمَنْزِلَ ٱلرَّفِیعَ وَٱلْوَسِیلَةَ
So please speak well of me because with Allah Your thoughtful judgement has an elevated status, Your disposition enjoys conclusive preference, Your actions are always in accordance with the commands of Allah, and You are the waseela (intercessor) to gain His favour.
إِنِّی انْقَلِبُ عَنْکُمَا مُنْتَظِراً لِتَنَجُّزِ ٱلْحَاجَةِ وَقَضَائِهَا وَنَجَاحِهَا مِنَ ٱللَّهِ بِشَفَاعَتِکُمَا لِی إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ فِی ذٰلِکَ فَلا اخِیبُ
Indeed I looked everywhere but I could find none except You to assist me in fulfilling my wishes and safety from Allah through Your intercession for this. Let me not turn away from the truth so that I may be at a loss
وَلاَ یَکونُ مُنْقَلَبِی مُنْقَلَباً خَائِباً خَاسِراً بَلْ یَکُونُ مُنْقَلَبِی مُنْقَلَباً رَاجِحاً مُفْلِحاً مُنْجِحاً مُسْتَجَاباً بِقَضَاءِ جَمِیعِ حَوَائِجِی
but let me turn towards You so that I may be successful and direct me towards Your orders in all matters;
وَتَشَفَّعَا لِی إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ إِنْقَلَبْتُ عَلَىٰ مَا شَاءَ ٱللَّهُ وَلا حَوْلَ وَلا قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِٱللَّهِ
and direct me to bring myself over to that which Allah wills and commands, there is no power and no might save Allah.
مُفَوِّضاً امْرِی إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ مُلْجِئاً ظَهْرِی إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ مُتَوَکِّلاً عَلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ
I commit my case to Allah, anything neglected or taking place behind my back shall be taken care of by Allah, I entrust Allah with the management of my affairs,
وَاقُولُ حَسْبِیَ ٱللَّهُ وَکَفَىٰ سَمِعَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَنْ دَعَا لَیْسَ لِی وَرَاءَ ٱللَّهِ وَوَرَاءَکُمْ یَا سَادَتِی مُنْتَهَىٰ
and say: Allah is sufficient and enough, Allah pays attention to whoso makes a request to Him, there is nothing for me in that which is in opposition of Allah, and You, O my Masters
مَا شَاءَ رَبِّی کَانَ وَمَا لَمْ یَشَا لَمْ یَکُنْ وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِٱللَّهِ
ultimately that which my Lord wills, takes place, and that which He wills not, happens not. There is no power and no might save in Allah.
اسْتَوْدِعُکُمَا ٱللَّهَ وَلا جَعَلَهُ ٱللَّهُ آخِرَ ٱلْعَهْدِ مِنِّی إِلَیْکُمَا
Unto You both I have come with love and affection, motivated under Divine guidance. May Allah not make this ziarat my last ziarat of You both.
إِنْصَرَفْتُ یَا سَیِّدِی یَا امِیرَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِینَ وَمَوْلاَی وَانْتَ یَا ابَا عَبْدِ ٱللَّهِ یَا سَیِّدِی
I leave everything O my Master, O Ameeral Moomineen, O my friend to whom I have surrendered, body and soul, and You O Abaa Abdullah, O my Master,
وَسَلاَمِی عَلَیْکُمَا مُتَّصِلٌ مَا ٱتَّصَلَ ٱللَّیْلُ وَٱلنَّهَارُ وَاصِلٌ ذٰلِکَ إِلَیْکُمَا غَیْرُ مَحْجُوبٍ عَنْکُمَا سَلاَمِی إِنْ شَاءَ ٱللَّهُ
and pay my respects with love and affection, continuously for as long as the day follows the night, towards You, if Allah so wills, it will never separate from You,
وَاسْالُهُ بِحَقِّکُمَا انْ یَشَاءَ ذٰلِکَ وَیَفْعَلَ فَإِنَّهُ حَمِیدٌ مَجِیدٌ
For Your sake I beseech Him that He wills it and does it because verily it is He who alone is praised, and He brings about all that which is glorious.
إِنْقَلَبْتُ یَا سَیِّدَیَّ عَنْکُمَا تَائِباً حَامِداً لِلَّهِ شَاکِراً رَاجِیاً لِلإِجَابَةِ غَیْرَ آیِسٍ وَلاَ قَانِطٍ
I am changed,O my Master, and I bring myself unto You, accepting the true faith, regretful of my earlier ignorance, thankful to Allah, always hopeful of getting His favour, never giving into despair, nor losing heart;
آئِباً عَائِداً رَاجِعاً إِلَىٰ زِیَارَتِکُمَا غَیْرَ رَاغِبٍ عَنْکُمَا وَلاَ عَنْ زِیَارَتِکُمَا
ever ready to be near You, returning again and again to see You, always longing for Your nearness,
بَلْ رَاجِعٌ عَائِدٌ إِنْ شَاءَ ٱللَّهُ وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِٱللَّهِ
but, inshaAllah, I shall always be near You every day. There is no power and no might save in Allah.
یَا سَادَتِی رَغِبْتُ إِلَیْکُمَا وَإِلَىٰ زِیَارَتِکُمَا بَعْدَ انْ زَهِدَ فِیکُمَا وَفِی زِیَارَتِکُمَا اهْلُ ٱلدُّنْیَا
O my Masters! I long for You and Your ziarat even though engrossed in this world are not concerned with it.
فَلاَ خَیَّبَنِیَ ٱللَّهُ مِمَّا رَجَوْتُ وَمَا امَّلْتُ فِی زِیَارَتِکُمَا إِنَّهُ قَرِیبٌ مُجِیبٌ
May not Allah not deprive me of what I hope and grant me Your ziarat. Verily He is near and answers the prayers.

Sayf ibn `Umayrah said, “I told Safwan that `Alqamah ibn Muhammad did not mention this du`a while quoting Imam Baqir rather, he related just the same ziarat. Safwan said, “I came here in company with my master Imam Sadiq and He observed the ziarat as we did; and while bidding farewell He recited this du`a after He had said two rak`ats of prayer as we did; and bid farewell as we did.’ Then Safwan added that Imam Sadiq had told him, “Keep on reciting this ziarat and this du`a. Verily, if one makes ziarat this way, and recites this du`a no matter from near or far; I guarantee his ziarat will be accepted, his attempt be thanked, his salutation will be conveyed to the Imam, and his request will be met by Allah, the Most High; he will be exalted to any rank he wishes, and Allah will not take him back disappointed. O Safwan! By this guarantee I found the very ziarat from My Father, from His Father Imam Sajjad by the very guarantee, from Imam Hussain by the same guarantee, from His Brother Imam Hasan by the very guarantee, from His Father, Amir al-Momineen by the same guarantee, from RasoolAllah by the very guarantee, from Jibrael by the same guarantee, from Allah, the Exalted by the very guarantee. Definitely, Allah has sworn by His Self that he who makes Ziarat to the shrine of Imam Hussain by reciting this ziarat – no matter from near or far away – and recites this du`a, Allah will accept his ziarat, and will meet any requests of his; therefore, he will not come back disappointed and in loss, and Allah will turn him back joyful because his requests were granted, entering Paradise and being secured from hellfire; and will accept his intercession for whomever he intercedes for except for Our enemies.”
Imam then said, “Allah has sworn by His Self, and has called Us to witness what the angels of His Heaven bore witness to. Then Jibrael addressed RasoolAllah that Allah had sent him to Him (RasoolAllah saw) to gladden and give good-tidings to Him (saw), Ali , Fatima, Hasan , Hussain and the Imams from His Offspring up to the Day of Judgment; prayed that the rejoicing of Him (saw), Ali , Fatima, Hasan , Hussain and the Imams from His Offspring, and His Shias be continuous and enduring up to the Day of Judgment.”
Then Safwan said that Imam Sadiq had told him, “O Safwan, whenever you have a request and wish for Allah to grant it, recite this ziarat wherever you are. Then recite this du`a and ask your Lord for your request that will be met. Never will Allah break His promise to RasoolAllah because of His Generosity and Gratefulness. Praise to Him.'”
Shaykh Noori, in his book al-Najm al-Thaqib has written, “As concerns the ziarat of Ashura, from the aspects of its merits and ranks suffice it to say that it is not like other ziarats that have been dictated by the Imams rather, it is among the Hadith e Qudsi; though, what issues from Their blessed hearts is not from anywhere but the Transcendental World. Every word of this ziarat, including the curses and salutations, is from Almighty Allah brought to RasoolAllah by Jibrael.”
The above matter has been stated after mentioning the story of hajji Sayyid Ahmad Rashti’s visiting Imam Mahdi during hajj pilgrimage; at that time the Imam had asked him about the reason why the ziarat Ashura had not been recited, and repeated the term “Ashura” three times. Shaykh Noori has added, “By experience, keeping on reciting this ziarat for forty days, or even less, is matchlessly beneficial for the requests to be fulfilled, the goals to be achieved and it causes one’s enemies to be kept away. However, the best benefit gained from keeping on reciting this ziarat is what I mentioned in my other book called Dar al-salaam. Its summary is that hajji Mulla Hasan Yazdi resided in Najaf and was a trustworthy, good-doer, and pious man and was continually busy with worshipping and reciting ziarats. He quoted from hajji Muhammad Ali Yazdi – a knowledgeable and righteous man who lived in the city of Yazd, and who was continually busy with bettering his otherworldly affairs and passed nights in a cemetery known as Mazar wherein a group of righteous men were buried – that he had a neighbor with whom they had grown up from childhood and had gone to the same teacher. The neighbor became a tax collector to earn his livelihood, and then passed away; he was buried in that cemetery in the vicinity of the place where that man used to stay the night.
Nearly one month later he dreamt about him in a good shape; he went to him and said, “I know your beginning and your end, your exterior (zahir) and inner self (batin); you were not among those who seemingly have good inner self (batin), for your occupation was expected to necessitate nothing except torment in the hereafter. So, what deed caused you to reach this rank?’ He said, “That’s right. I was suffering from the severest torment from the moment of my death until yesterday, when the wife of the master blacksmith Ashraf died, and was buried in this place.” Then he pointed to a spot nearly one hundred meters far from him, and added, “During the night she was just buried, Imam Hussain paid visit to her three times, and commanded in the third time the torment to be removed from that grave. Then our shape became good and we enjoyed relief and grace.”
Then he woke up, while he did not know the blacksmith and his neighborhood. He searched for him in the blacksmiths’ workshops, found him, and asked him about his wife. The blacksmith replied that she had died the day before and that he had buried her in that place and named the same spot from the dream.
The man asked whether she had made ziarat to the shrine of Imam Hussain. The answer was “No”. Then he asked him whether she had recited masaib for the Imam or whether she had held majalis of the Imam. The answer to both was “No”. Then the blacksmith asked, “What are you looking for?” The man narrated the dream to the blacksmith. The blacksmith said, “She use to continuously recite Ziarat Ashura”.
