Ibn Tawus was born on the 15th of Muharram in 589 AH ( 21st January in 1193) in Iraq, Hilla city. He was taught by many teachers. He married Zahra Khatoon, daughter of Shia Vazi of Nasir Bin Zaidi and then, they moved to Baghdad. When Baghdad got conquered by Hulagu Khan, he asked the scholars of the city who was better, a tyrant Muslim or a Kafir judicious ruler? He was the only one who answered him and saved thousands of lives. When Hulagu Khan gave him the leadership of some cities like Baghdad, he rejected this position.
