Sayyed Radhi ud-Deen Ali ibn Musa ibn Tawus al Hasani wal Husaini,(Arabic: السید رضي الدین، علي بن موسی بن جعفر بن طاووس) (1193-1266) commonly called Sayyed Ibn Tawus,  was a Shiite jurist, theologian, historian and astrologer. He was a descendant of Hasan ibn Ali by his father and a descendant of Husain ibn Ali by his mother.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Ibn Tawus was born on the 15th of Muharram in 589 AH ( 21st January in 1193) in Iraq, Hilla city. He was taught by many teachers. He married Zahra Khatoon, daughter of Shia Vazi of Nasir Bin Zaidi and then, they moved to Baghdad. When Baghdad got conquered by Hulagu Khan, he asked the scholars of the city who was better, a tyrant Muslim or a Kafir judicious ruler? He was the only one who answered him and saved thousands of lives. When Hulagu Khan gave him the leadership of some cities like Baghdad, he rejected this position. Finally, he accepted the leadership after being advised by Nasir Al-Din Al-Tusi. He died on 8th August 1266 in Baghdad.
