Amr b. Subayh al-Saydawi (Arabic: عَمرو بن صُبَیح الصیداوی ) fought on the side of Umar b. Sa'd's army in the Battle of Karbala. He was involved in killing of Abd Allah b. Muslim b. Aqil. He was one of those who trampled over Imam al-Hussain's body in the afternoon of Ashura at the command of Umar b. Sa'd.

Name

Amr was in the army of Umar b. Sa'd in the Battle of Karbala. His name was variously mentioned in sources as Amr b. Subayh al-Madhhiji, Amr b. Subayh al-Saydawi, and Amr b. Subayh al-Sada'i.

In the Battle of Karbala

According to historical sources, on the Day of Ashura, he threw an arrow with which he pinned Abd Allah b. Muslim b. Aqil's hand to his forehead. There is a disagreement about whether it was Amr who martyred Abd Allah or someone else. Amr was one of the 10 cavalries who ran over the corpse of Imam al-Hussain in the afternoon of Ashura at the command of Umar b. Sa'd and broke the Imam's back.

He is cursed in Ziyarah al-Shuhada' as the murderer of Abd Allah b. Muslim b. Aqil.

Death

In the Uprising of al-Mukhtar in 66/685, Amr was captured overnight while he was asleep on the roof of his house, his sword being under his head. He was taken to al-Mukhtar. Amr hit his hand to Abd Allah b. Kamil's eye who was standing beside him. He was hit with spears at the command of al-Mukhtar until he died.
