His mother, the daughter of Hizam b. Khalid b. Rabi’a from the Arab tribe of Banu Kilab, was the mother of three more sons of Ali b. Abi Talib, and for this reason she became known as Umm al-Banin. [1] It is related from Imam Ali that he said, “I have named him after my brother Uthman b. Maz'un". Uthman b. Maz'un was one of the companions of the Prophet.[2]
According to some historical sources, Uthman b. Ali was 21 years old when he was martyred on the day of Ashura[3] and had no children.[4] His grave is in the mausoleum of the collective grave of the martyrs of Karbala in the shrine of Imam Hussain.

The first person from among the children of Ali b. Abi Talib who went to the battlefield was Abu Bakr b. Ali. After him, according to a report, it was Abd Allah and Ja'far, brothers of Uthman from the same mother.[5] After them, Uthman went to the battlefield reciting the following Rajaz: “Verily I am Uthman the possessor of glory, my master is Ali the executor of virtuous deeds, this is Hussain the master of fairness, the master of the young and old”.
Khawli b. Yazid al-Asbahi shot an arrow at Uthman’s forehead and throw him down the horse. Then, a man from Banu Darim tribe beheaded him.[6]
