On the Day of Ashura[edit | edit source]

In the Battle of Karbala, Zayd b. Ruqad was a member of Omar b. Sa'd's army. He contributed to the martyrdom of Abbas b. Ali and Suwayd b. 'Amr b. Abi Muta' (the last martyr on the Day of Ashura). Based on some accounts, he killed 'Abd Allah b. Muslim as well.

Fate[edit | edit source]

In the course of uprising, al-Mukhtar al-Thaqafi asked 'Abd Allah b. Kamil to kill Zayd b. Ruqad. When he was surrounded, ibn Kamil ordered his people not to hit him with swords and spears; he ordered them to shoot him with arrows and stone him, instead. He was burned while he was still almost alive.
