Supplication of Arafa by Imam al-Hussain: Difference between revisions

The '''supplication of 'Arafa by Imam al-Hussain''' (Arabic: '''دعاء الإمام الحسین یوم عرفة''') is one of [[Shiʿa|Shi'a]] supplications first recorded by [[Hussain ibn Ali|Imam Hussain]]. He recited this [[du’a]]-one of the most famous in Shi'ite annals- one year during the pilgrimage to Mecca on the Day of Arafah (the ninth of Dhu-l-hijjah), and it has been recited by pious Shi'ites ever since. On that day pilgrims pass the time at Mount Arafat occupying themselves with canonical prayer, reciting the Quran, litanies, invocations and supplications. The spirit of the day is well represented in the Imam's prayer, which is full of love and enthusiasm. Although Shi'a scholars consider the supplication as being reported from Imam Hussain, there is doubt regarding its ending part and some deny its attribution to Imam Hussain.

One of the famous prayers of 9th Dhu-l-hijjah is the prayer of Imam Hussain which has been narrated by bashar and bashir (the sons of ghaleb-asadi) as follows: In the day of arafah in arafaat desert we were honoured to be with the Imam and he came out of his tent with his [[Ahl Al-Bayt|Ahl al-Bayt]], children and his shias and humbly stood on the left side of the mountain and looked towards the kaba' and raised his hands toward the sky in front of his face and started this supplication.

In the report of al-Kaf'ami, the supplication ends with this sentence:  

"O my God, I am needy despite my wealth, how can I not be needy when I am needy...; and it ends with this phrase: You are the watcher (over all things) and the Present (at all times). Verily you have power over all things. All praise be to Allah alone."  

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمٰنِ ٱلرَّحِیمِ
