Biography[edit | edit source]

Sayyed Abd Al-Razzaq Al-Musawi Al-Muqarram was born in 1898 in Najaf. His father was most often in Itikaf in Mosque of Kufa, and his mother was famous for reciting Quran. He grew up as he witnessed rawda ceremonies in his grandfather’s house and kept holding rawda sessions in in his own house when he became older. He traces his lineage  back  to Imam-al-Kazim, and a family of scholars, as a result of which he became a prominent figure in Shia studies, concentrating mainly on lives of Imams.

Muqarram’s Lifestyle[edit | edit source]

He was never looking for wealth or welfare and lived a simple life contently. During his lifetime he received many job offers from Shia authorities of his time, but he believed that to keep the “self” tamed, one shouldn’t make it familiar with wealth and welfare.

His activities were not restricted to religious writings and advice, but he also accompanied scholars in their protest against Pahlavi in Najaf.

This outstanding religious scholar passed away in 1971 in Najaf.

He was also into poetry and has mentioned the names of poets who had penned poems about Ahl al-Bayt in his books. He also recited some poems in his Majalis which were most often the poems he had memorized.

Being a master in genealogies, he has written some commentaries on genealogical books as well.

His religious writings, which are mostly the biographies of Ahl-al-Bayt, are not entirely published and some have remained as manuscripts. Among the published works, one can find mainly monographs, the most famous one of which is Maqtal al-Muqarram which concerns the event of Karbala.
