BiographyEdit

Mirza Hussain bin Muhammad Noori Tabarisi, aka, Muhaddis Noori or Allameh Noori, was born in the village of Yalu in Noor county, Mazandaran on the 18th of Shawwal 1254 AH. Muhaddis Noori started learning religious subjects at a very early age in his childhood and at the bloom of his youth he moved to Tehran to study under famous scholars such as Shaykh Abdul Rahim Boroujerdi, who was so impressed by Muhaddis Noori that he gave his daughter in marriage to Muhaddis Noori. Later, at the age of 19 Allamah Noori moved to Najaf and continued his studies for four years there. After that, he studied in Karbala, Kazmain, and Samarra under great Shia scholars of that time such as Abdul Hussain Tehrani, aka, Shaykh al-Iraqin, Mirza Shirazi, Fath Ali Sultanabadi, Shaykh Murteza Ansari and Fazullah Noori. In 1314 AH, he returned to Najaf and lived there till the last days of his life.

During the time of Sheikh Ansari, people would visit Imam Hussain's (AS) shrine on foot. However, at the time of Muhaddis Noori, this was considered a sign of poverty. Henceforth, Muhaddis Noori revived this tradition by walking on foot from Najaf to Karbala with his students, a tradition still followed during the Arba'een walk to date.

After returning to Najaf from his last visit to Karbala, in 1319 AH, Muhaddis Noori became seriously ill and finally passed away on the night of Wednesday, 27th of Jumadi as-Sanj, 1320 AH. A large number of people including great scholars came to his funeral and buried his body in the courtyard of the shrine of Imam Ali (AS).

Lo'lo wa MarjanEdit

One of the main problems that have occurred throughout the history regarding Azadari of Imam Hussain is the distortions in traditions by the reciters of eulogies and speakers about the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his companions along with the events that took place on the Day of Ashura as well its aftermath. Muhaddis Noori in his book Lo'lo wa Marjan (Pearls and Corals) has criticized those speakers who distorted the traditions regarding this event and has also authorized various narrations as authentic regarding Ashura that can be used by the speakers and reciters in the morning gatherings organized for Imam Hussain. Moreover, he has also condemned listening to fake information and has motivated scholars to speak the truth as well as unmask the liars, even if it is disliked by the people.
