'Abd Allah b. 'Azra al-Khath'ami (Arabic: عبدالله بن عَزره الخَثعَمی) fought on the side of 'Umar b. Sa'd's army in the Battle of Karbala and killed Ja'far b. 'Aqil. In the uprising of Mukhtar, he escaped to Basra in an attempt to join Mus'ab b. Zubayr.

Name and Lineage

'Abd Allah b. 'Azrah was from Khath'am tribe and his name is also mentioned in sources as 'Abd Allah b. 'Urwa, 'Urwa b. 'Abd Allah, and 'Azra b. 'Abd Allah.

In the Battle of Karbala

In the Battle of Karbala, 'Abd Allah b. 'Azra was among the archers of the army of 'Umar b. Sa'd. It is narrated that he shot 12 arrows toward the army of Imam.

On the Day of 'Ashura, he shot an arrow towards Ja'far b. 'Aqil's heart and martyred him. In some sources, Bishr b. Sawt is mentioned as the murderer of Ja'far b. 'Aqil.

In Akhbar al-tiwal, 'Abd Allah b. 'Azra was mentioned as the murder of 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Aqil which does not agree with other historical reports.

Destiny

After the Uprising of al-Mukhtar broke out in 66/685, he escaped to Basra to join Mus'ab b. Zubayr. His house was ruined by the order of al-Mukhtar al-Thaqafi.
