Using this template[edit source]

Feel free to use on any article about a horse show or a horse show combined with another event, such as a rodeo or trade fair. Advice on filling in each parameter follows.

Name[edit source]

The official name the event is known by.

Image[edit source]

Being used for the image of the show, if one is available. It's nice to have a big picture of the whole arena such as the one used on the TWHNC article, but any image of the show is good!

Sanctioning bodies[edit source]

The associations or groups that hold or sanction the show, such as the AQHA.

Location[edit source]

Typically will be the town and state where the show is held, although the actual arena or venue can be named if known or if it's well-known.

Held[edit source]

When the show takes place. Most are annual, so it should read as, "annually, mid-October".

Length[edit source]

How many days the show lasts.

Sponsors[edit source]

This can be used to name the largest sponsors, such as SmartPak or other big companies.

Breeds shown[edit source]

This one is pretty obvious. Most of the big shows are single-breed, but some are multi-breed and have sanctioned classes for horses of different breeds: the National Horse Show holds single-breed classes for Saddlebreds and all-breed classes for hunters.

Largest honor[edit source]

The most important class, the one whose winner is referred to as "winning the show". Typically this will be a world championship.

Divisions[edit source]

All the different divisions riders are divided by: youth, amateur, open, non-pro.

Classes[edit source]

It's not practical to list every single class, but maybe the most important ones can be listed. Possibly classes can be listed by discipline, such as hunter under saddle or reining, with the understanding that each one will be further divided up by the age of horse and ability of the rider.

Qualifying[edit source]

Whether a horse has to win a specific number of points or classes in other shows to be eligible to compete in this one.

Total purse[edit source]

Total amount of prize money offered, such as $50,000.

Number of entries[edit source]

The total number of individual horses entered in the show, not the total number of entries as calculated by adding up all the class entries, as some exhibitors will show one horse in multiple classes.

Attendance[edit source]

The total number of people who attend over the course of the show.

Slogan[edit source]

The official slogan, such as "The country's biggest horse show".

Website[edit source]

The official website for the show. Most of the big shows will have one, but if they do not the website for the sanctioning organization can be listed.
