Saʿd the slave of ʿAmr (ʿUmar) b. Khalid al-Saydawi (Arabic: سَعد مَولى عَمرو بن خالِد الصَیداوی) (martyrdom: Day of Ashura, 61/680) was martyred at the Battle of Karbala. He was the slave of 'Amr b. Khalid al-Saydawi. He accompanied his master to join the caravan of Imam al-Hussain in 'Udhayb al-Hijanat. On the Day of 'Ashura, he was martyred in the first attack.

Introduction

According to historical sources, Sa'd was the slave of Abu Khalid 'Amr b. Khalid al-Saydawi. In Ibsar al-'ayn, al-Samawi has introduced him an honorable and aspiring person. His master has been mentioned to be 'Amr or 'Umar b. Khalid. The name of Sa'd's father is unknown. In A'yan al-Shi'a, al-Sayyid Muhsin al-Amin has quoted from some contemporary scholars that the name of Sa'd's father was 'Abd Allah. However, he considered it an unreliable record.

The Battle of Karbala

Sa'd and his master 'Amr were among those who left Kufa with the guidance of Al-Tirimmah to join the caravan of Imam al-Hussain in 'Udhayb al-Hijanat. Al-Hurr wanted to capture them or make them return, but Imam prevented him.

Martyrdom

On the Day of 'Ashura, he was martyred in the first attack. The four who had joined Imam in 'Udhayb al-Hijanat attacked the army of 'Umar b. Sa'd. The soldiers of 'Umar b. Sa'd surrounded them and cut their connection with other companions of Imam al-Hussain. Then, al-'Abbas b. Ali attacked the army of 'Umar b. Sa'd and rescued them. Once again, they attacked and fought until they were martyred in one place. He is buried in the mass grave of the martyrs of Karbala in the Holy Shrine of Imam al-Hussain.
