Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Khushkara al-Bajali (Arabic: عبدالرحمان (عبدالله) بن ابی‌خُشکاره البَجَلی) was fighting on the side of Omar b. Sa'd's army during the Battle of Karbala. He contributed to the martyrdom of Muslim b. Awsaja. Following Mukhtar's order to execute those responsible for the tragedy of Karbala, he was killed.

Battle of Karbala[edit | edit source]

Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Khushkara was a member of Omar b. Sa'd's army in the Battle of Karbala. He martyred Muslim b. Awsaja with the help of Muslim b. Abd Allah al-Dababi. He is cursed in Ziyarah al-Shuhada as a murderer.

On the Day of Ashura, Ibn Abi Khushkara, Ziyad b. Malik al-Dab'i, 'Imran b. Khalid al-Athri, and Abd Allah b. Qays al-Khawlani stole mignonettes (a yellow fragrant seed like sesames used to color clothes and hair as well as for therapy) owned by Imam Hussain.

His name in the Sources[edit | edit source]

There is a disagreement among sources regarding his name. He was mentioned as Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Khushkara, Abd Allah b. Khushkara, and Abd al-Rahman b. Khushkara. Also in some sources, his name is spelled as Khashkara.

Death[edit | edit source]

Al-Mukhtar al-Thaqafi ordered the execution of those involved in the massacre of Karbala in late 66/686. Sa'r al-Hanafi gave a report to al-Mukhtar, and he commissioned Abd Allah b. Kamil to find him. Ibn Kamil arrested Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Khushkara, Ziyad b. Malik al-Dab'i, 'Imran b. Khalid al-Athri, and Abd Allah b. Qays al-Khawlani, and took them to al-Mukhtar. They were taken to bazar and decapitated at the command of al-Mukhtar.
