Mohammad Ibrahim Ayati

Ayatollah Dr. Mohammad Ibrahim Ayati (1916-1964) was an Iranian Shia historian, writer, and preacher.

Biography

Ayatollah Dr. Mohammad Ibrahim Ayati, born in 1916 to a well-known family in the village of Gazar, about 60 kilometers north of Birjand city in South Khorasan, was a preacher, who lived and educated the people in Khorasan and Tehran. His father, Shaykh Mohammad Qaeni, was the prayer leader of Gazar village and took care of the religious affairs of the people. From the age of seven, Ayati would attend the meetings of the professors of that time in his city to learn from the Holy Quran and other religious books. He studied Arabic with his father who passed away when Ayati was only nine years old. By the age of thirteen, Ayati had gone to the city of Birjand to continue his studies. Five years later, he moved to the Baqaria Seminary in Mashhad. His teachers included Shaykh Mohammad Baqer Ayati, Shaykh Mohammad Hossein Ayati, Mirza Hossein Faqih Sabzevari, Mirza Mehdi Esfahani, Shaykh Hashem Qazvini, Shaykh Mojtabi Qazvini, Adib Nishaburi, and others. After completing his seminary studies, Dr. Ayati started preaching in Birjand and after nine years he moved to Tehran and settled there this the last days of his life. Dr. Ayati was a fast learner and had learned English as well. Many of Dr. Ayati's speeches were broadcasted on Radio. On Friday, October 9, 1964, Dr. Ayati met with an accident while going to Shemiran to give a lecture on the interpretation of the Quran led to his death at the age of 49 and by the order of Ayatollah Marashi, his body was buried in the Abu Hussaini cemetery in Qom in the exclusive porch of the scholars.
