Lineage
Shaykh Abbas Qummi wrote about the martyred teenager who witnessed his father's' martyrdom in Karbala.[1] Although his name is not mentioned in sources, he was probably Muslim b. Awsaja's son.[2] Some contemporary scholars have referred to him as "Khalaf" and others as "'Abd Allah".[3]
Event of Karbala
Khalaf b. Muslim b. Awsaja, was 12 years old on the Day of Ashura.[4] When his father was martyred, he decided to fight the enemy, but Imam Hussain did not allow him to go to the battlefield.
His mother encouraged him nonetheless and told him: "O son! I would never be happy if you do not go to war." After this, Khalaf went to the battlefield and fought there hearing his mother as giving him glad tidings that water would be served to him by the Saqi Kawthar. He reportedly killed 20 or 30 people[5] and was finally martyred. His head was thrown to his mother. She looked at the decapitated body of her son and praised it.[6]
