Martyrdom in the Battle of Karbala

Ammar b. Abi Salama al-Dalani al-Hamdani known as Ammar al-Dalani was a devotee Shi'a and companion of Imam Ali. After the Martyrdom of Imam Ali, he became a companion of Imam Hussain and was eventually martyred at the Battle of Karbala.

His life

Ammar b. Abi Salama was from "Bani Dalan", a clan of Hamdan tribe.[1] He was among the companions of the Prophet and the companions of Imam Ali in the battles of Jamal, Siffin and Nahrawan. [2]

In the Battle of Karbala

Prior to the Battle of Karbala, he made an attempt to kill Ibn Ziyad in Nukhayla camp near Kufa, but he was not successful. Then, he joined the camp of Imam Hussain[3] and was martyred on the Day of Ashura in the first attack of the enemy.[4] His name is mentioned in Ziarat al-Shuhada, "Peace be upon Ammar b. Abi Salama Hamdani."[5]
