She has published five books on Iranian Cinema, the history of reform, revolution and the uses of various media in protest. She is also known for her work on [[Ta'ziya]]. In particular, she traces the range of political operations in which ta'ziyeh and [[Muharram]] rituals have been engaged both as a popular form that creates non-official public spaces, and as a state-sponsored form.
