==Biography==
His mother, the daughter of Hizam b. Khalid b. Rabi’a from the Arab tribe of Banu Kilab, was the mother of three more sons of Ali b. Abi Talib, and for this reason she became known as Umm al-Banin. <ref>Iṣfahānī, ''Maqātil al-ṭālibīyyīn'', p. 89.</ref> It is related from Imam Ali that he said, “I have named him after my brother Uthman b. According to some historical sources, Uthman b. Ali was 21 years old when he was martyred on the day of [[Ashura]]<ref>Iṣfahānī, ''Maqātil al-ṭālibīyyīn'', p. 89; Majlisī, ''Biḥār al-anwār'', vol. 45, p. 37.</ref> and had no children.<ref>Majlisī, ''Biḥār al-anwār'', vol. 45, p. 37; Mufīd, ''al-Irshād'', vol. 2, p. 109.</ref> His grave is in the mausoleum of the collective grave of the [[martyrs of Karbala]] in the shrine of [[Imam Hussain]].
